Brooklyn
Borough of Kings' definitive family handbook — 11 categories, 100+ venues researched by a Brooklyn parent of four, plus live upcoming events.
Brooklyn Bridge Park — Pier 6 🏆
Brooklyn Heights / DUMBO
Quite frankly absurd in its offerings: a giant wooden teepee with slide exit, large spherical climbing structures, Slide Mountain with towering wooden slides built into a landscaped hill, Swing Valley with dozens of swings, the Water Lab splash zone (open warm months), and the Sandbox Village — a sprawling shaded sandpit. Free entry, stunning Manhattan skyline views included.
Domino Park 🍭
Williamsburg (North)
Built on the former Domino Sugar Refinery site, this waterfront playground designed by Mark Reigelman features an industrial-themed climbing structure inspired by the sugar refining process, a massive splash pad for summer cooling, and gorgeous East River views with the Manhattan skyline as backdrop. Danny Meyer's Tacocina is steps away for parental cocktail recovery.
Prospect Park — Multiple Playgrounds 🌳
Park Slope / Crown Heights / Flatbush
Brooklyn's backyard contains half a dozen excellent playgrounds. The Harmony Playground (near the bandshell) features musical instruments — harp-shaped sprinklers, giant xylophones — alongside slides and jungle gyms. The Zucker Natural Exploration Area is an incredible nature-play space with log climbing, water features, and a treehouse. The LeFrak Center at Lakeside has a 16,000 sq ft splash pad with 47 water jets (summer) and ice skating (winter). All free.
J.J. Byrne Playground 🐄
Park Slope
The quintessential Park Slope toddler hangout, right in the heart of the neighborhood. Features farm animal climbing structures (adorable for the 1–4 set), swings, slides, rails, a spray park that opens in summer, and a great mix of equipment for toddlers through school-age. Surrounded by the beautiful Park Slope streetscape — easy to grab a coffee at one of dozens of nearby cafes.
Betsy Head Park 💦
Brownsville
A $10M renovation has transformed this south Brooklyn playground into one of the borough's most accessible and exciting. New slides, climbers, spray showers, winding paths, a sandbox with toy fossils for budding archaeologists, music stations, and creative color stations. Parents enjoy new trees, lighting, seating, and upgraded restrooms. An inclusive design ensures all kids can participate.
